At the Summons of God Alone (Poem)
Note: A poem based on the various gospel accounts of Jesus calming the storm. It is intended to capture the heart of that event, and God’s good purpose in it, (Matthew 8:23-27; Mark 4:35-41;Luke 8:22-25).
At the Summons of God Alone
By Rev. Thomas C. Brown
At the summons of God alone,
the storm begins to blow.
Distrust and doubt provoked,
The depths of the heart to show.
We shout in fear and anger,
"God, why would you do this to me?”
His answer both firm and clear,
"Because you were made for me."
"I'll batter the ship,
I'll break the bow,
I'll sink the vessel,
and make the winds howl;
I'll crack the stern,
I’ll shatter the mast,
to bring you home rejoicing,
believing at last."
